Identity Verification

Verify Your Identity in Person (Free)

The fastest way to complete USPS Form 1583: bring two pieces of ID to the counter during staffed hours and walk out fully verified in about 3 minutes.

Every mailbox customer in the US completes USPS Form 1583 — it’s the postal regulation that authorizes us to receive mail and packages on your behalf, and it applies to every carrier, not just USPS. In person is the recommended way to do it: it’s free, takes about 3 minutes, and you leave fully verified with 24/7 self-serve locker access.

What to Bring

Two different forms of ID, at least one with a photo. For example:

  • Photo ID: passport, driver’s licence, state ID, or NEXUS card.
  • Second piece: another photo ID, or an address document — a lease, mortgage statement, vehicle registration, or insurance document.

A driver’s licence plus any one other piece covers it.

Where and When

Come to the counter at 145 Tyee Dr, Point Roberts, WA 98281 during staffed hours — Monday–Friday 10:00 AM–4:30 PM, Saturday 10:00 AM–3:00 PM. No appointment needed.

What Happens at the Counter

  1. A team member checks your ID — the same kind of check a bank does.
  2. You complete and sign Form 1583; we countersign and keep it on file.
  3. Done — your account is verified on the spot.

Can You Ship Before You Verify?

Yes — order as soon as you register. Your address is live immediately, and nothing has to happen before you use it. The form is signed when you come to collect, not before you order, so there’s no reason to wait on a delivery.

Your Package Is Already Here?

That’s the easiest case — do both in one visit. Bring your two pieces of ID when you come for your parcel, and we’ll complete Form 1583 and hand your package over in the same visit. No appointment, no need to come twice, and nothing to do online beforehand.

Your parcel isn’t stranded while you’re unverified — we can release it at the counter during staffed hours. Federal law still requires the signed form for us to continue receiving mail on your behalf, so it isn’t a way around completing it.

What Verification Unlocks

Federal law requires a signed Form 1583 for us to continue receiving mail on your behalf, so every customer completes it. Everything else follows from it: pickup PINs appear in your portal and emails, the 24/7 self-serve lockers work for you, and payments, letter mail, and shipping/forwarding are all available. Until then you’re limited to counter pickup during staffed hours — nothing else changes. Verification is kept current rather than done once: the form is signed a single time, but USPS requires the ID behind it to stay valid, so if your ID expires we’ll ask you to update it.

Prefer to do it from home? You can verify online by video instead — handy if you’ll mostly use letter scanning and forwarding, or can’t make it during office hours. Your information stays private — never sold or shared except where the law requires it.
